Role Overview — ELL Teacher (Grades 5–8)

  • Seeking results-driven, culturally responsive ELL educators aligned to our four principles: Belief & Connection, Clear is Kind, Intent & Impact, Cultural Context + Critical Thinking.
  • Content needs across Middle School: English Language Learner / ELL, plus collaboration with Math, Science, English, History, and Specials.

Primary Responsibilities — Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment (ELL)

  • Develop and adapt ELL-aligned curriculum to state/Common Core standards.
  • Design assessments; use data to drive ELL instruction and student growth.
  • Differentiate for English Learners’ language proficiency and learning profiles.
  • Deliver rigorous, engaging ELD instruction with urgency and high expectations.
  • Collaborate with content/grade teams to promote critical thinking and academic rigor.
  • Assume additional duties as assigned by the Principal.

  • Build authentic relationships that engage EL students in deep learning.

ELL-Specific Responsibilities — Services and Compliance

  • Identify and serve EL students per state, federal, and district guidelines.
  • Provide ELD via inclusion and/or pull-out models based on proficiency and needs.
  • Teach targeted English language development (reading, writing, speaking, listening) for grades 5–12.
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers to integrate language supports.
  • Implement ELL services aligned to school plans; ensure compliance.
  • Communicate with families; partner with translators as needed.
  • Maintain and update Individual Student Plans (ISPs) using performance data.
  • Administer/proctor WIDA; ensure accommodations on state/district assessments.

Desired Qualifications 

  • Bachelor’s required; master’s preferred.
  • Experience teaching in urban/public charter settings preferred.
  • Meets state and federal requirements for licensure; ELL/ESOL endorsement a plus.
  • Demonstrated belief in all students’ potential and Kauffman School mission.
  • Strong feedback orientation, attention to detail, and strategic execution.
  • Calm, professional presence amid competing demands; “whatever it takes” mindset.
