Special Education Teacher — Ewing Marion Kauffman School (Kansas City, MO)
The Ewing Marion Kauffman School is a free, public charter school serving 5th–12th graders with a mission to create college graduates. We seek a Special Education Teacher who is results-driven and culturally responsive to support diverse learners across grades and content areas.
Role Summary
The Special Education Teacher provides push-in and pull-out support, differentiates instruction, delivers small-group and 1:1 interventions, and ensures services align to IEP goals and compliance standards. Full-time, exempt.
What You’ll Do

Provide small-group and 1:1 instruction within general education classrooms; tailor supports to varied learning profiles.

Collaborate with teachers to design whole-group practices, targeted interventions, and individualized learning activities.

Track student data and adjust interventions to drive mastery and growth.

Partner with the Director of Special Education to write and implement standards-aligned IEPs; manage IEP/504 documentation and compliance; coordinate annual reviews; liaise with external providers.

Lead/assist professional development for content and grade-level teams; advise on assessment accommodations and modifications.

Maximize instructional time with urgency; deliver rigorous, culturally responsive content that builds critical thinking.

Special Education Teacher — Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s preferred.

2+ years special education teaching experience with evidence of student achievement.

Knowledge of IEP processes, compliance, and reporting.

Eligible to meet all state/federal licensure requirements.

Detail-oriented, responsive to feedback, strategic, and adaptable; calm under competing priorities.

Ability to work on-site or as assigned; accepts reassignment if needed.
